CHANGE ME

Everyone’s favourite Midget/Fireman/20Twenty frontman (select your favourite cliché) Jonny Mingo put on a Jam at the Factory Skatepark in Dundee recently.

Early attempts to promote said event on the BMXinScotland boards turned into the usual Bitchfest, but all said and done, although turnout was lower than previous Jams, everyone had a great time and some amazing shit went down.

MINGO, DISASTER ON THE NEW WEDGE

The Factory were very accommodating and had some new subs/wedges etc. built for the Jam to throw a bit of variety into the mix. My personal favourite was one of the old quarters being nailed down on its side on the bowl deck to give a kind of wallride/curved sub arrangement….. which was definitely put to good use!

KEDDIE, PEG STALL, BOWL QTR EXTENSION

First up was the Spine Mini. 3rd place went to DSAB Tom, and although he ripped the ramp apart as usual, defending champ Keddie could only manage 2 nd. Smooth style, loads of lip tech and HUGE airs sealed the win for Sam from Forres.

Next up was Bowl. 3 rd place went to The Midget Jam organiser, with loads of good variations over the hip. 2 nd went to Justin Hawkins twin brother Disco Stu with some mad inverts, turndowns and use of the Wallride add-on. The Bowl though was OWNED by Hairfarmer Neil Keddie…. Huge airs both ways, downside ice and toothpicks and trick of the Bowl, a tyretap 5ft out on the Steel Girder. 1 st place well deserved.

KEDDIE, TYRETAP OUT THE BOWL

Then, a new event, The Highest Hop contest. This proved to be a right laugh. Mingo managed to hop his height in inches (mind he’s only a wee lad and his bike weighs less in pounds than it cost to get in) and Unit23 local Parky hopped his AGE in inches to eventually tie with Disco Stu at 36”. Both tried the elusive 37 a few times but we agreed that neither was going to do it….. besides, they snapped all the garden canes and I didn’t have any more in the car!

DISCO'S CROWN JEWELS GET BURNT WITH RUBBER TIEING THE HIGH HOP!

After the High Hop, there was an enforced break from proceedings as Disco Stu knocked himself out cold taking one of the hardest slams I’ve seen in a long time. Thankfully, after a few minutes rest, a dab with the magic sponge and a cuddle from Robin “The Darkness” frontman was back up on his feet and onto his bike.

DISCO WITH PARKY NOT LONG AFTER, OBVIOUSLY STILL A BIT DAZED….

Last up was the Street Comp which I can definitely confirm was the hardest to Judge. 540’s on the Qtr, 450’s over the driveway and big airs over the flatbank gap gave DSAB Tom another 3 rd Spot. Downside ice and toothpicks aplenty, HUGE wallrides and an amazing footplant tailwhip on the vertwall gave the Hairfarmer another 2 nd. The win though with MASSIVE whips on the Qtrs, Super smooth 5’s and some amazing pegless lip trickery on the new sub went to young Doom shredder Luben. It was a hard decision between him and Keddie, but I think we actually decided that Luben’s rad facial expressions tipped the balance in his favour!

CONSTIPATION SETS IN AS LUBEN ICE’S THE SUB WITH NO PEGS …

Prizes supplied by 20Twenty, Transition-Extreme, A-Risk, Pretty Heavy, BSD, Alone and Padded Cell were then dished out. What with taking a 1 st and two 2 nd’s, Keddie was awarded another pile of stuff and the Overall Winner title.

WELL DONE THE HAIRFARMER FOR THE OVERALL WIN !!! NOTE THAT MINGO IS ALL SMILES AS HE KNOWS THAT FRED ’S FISHEYE LENS IS GOING TO CREATE THE ILLUSION THAT HE IS ACTUALLY TALLER THAN KEDDIE. IN REALITY, HE’S REALLY THE SAME SIZE AS ROBIN….

Well, that’s about it. Big shouts have to go to The Factory (in particular Davie Taylor) for letting us hold the event, Fred for all these AMAZING photos, and you lot who all turned up. It’s the riders who make these Jams what they are.

Had to save the last word for Mingo though, the Jam wouldn’t have been possible without all the hard work he put in, so BIG PROPS to him, cheers Mike. Hopefully the next one will be at the completed Transition Park! Till then, stay safe.
